At the University of Cincinnati, I currently teach three courses in the Biology and Environmental Sciences Departments: "Environmental Studies 1012" (intro sequence for undergraduates in the majors curriculum), "Graduate Seminar in Evolutionary Biology" (required course for Biology graduate students), and "Apocalypse v. Sustainability in Environmental Futures" (a new honors undergraduate course using popular environmental dystopian media to investigate the current environmental collapse). In Spring 2021 I will begin teaching my newly redesigned Conservation Biology undergraduate course. Stay tuned for updates on this new endeavor aimed at active and skill-based learning for upper level undergraduates!
The goals of my course designs are primarily to teach students how to ask questions and process knowledge. We focus on figuring out what they already know, what they still need to know, and how to go about filling those gaps. I employ an active learning framework, where we tackle real-world case studies and visit sites on location to ask questions and get broad perspectives for collaborative problem solving. |
